Education Authority Breached Human Rights of Disabled Children During Covid

We are very proud to have helped achieve two High Court declarations that reinforce the importance of ensuring public authorities do not place unlawful systemic barriers in the way of disabled people, including disabled children. This result which has enabled children to secure transport to school. Visual impairment is a low incidence disability so to have expertise is essential to widen understanding of the impact it has, as a stand alone disability and combined with other needs. Through the Equal Eyes project in partnership with Children’s Law Centre the team worked collaboratively to support families through the process to take on the Education Authority and secure the support their children needed. It can be overwhelming for families to challenge decisions taken and to ensure their children are not failed. Angel Eyes NI provides an Education Advocacy Service that supports you to get the right support for your child in all educational settings. Our aim is that all children with a visual impairment have equal access to education. Well done again to Karen and Rachel, fantastic result!
