Angel Eyes NI is a charity which works for the benefit of families who are affected by sight loss of a child or young person aged 25 years or under.

Angel Eyes NI is a data controller of your personal data. At Angel Eyes NI we are committed to protecting your privacy. This privacy notice tells you what to expect when Angel Eyes NI collects personal information.

The Chief Executive of Angel Eyes NI is our Data Protection Leader and can be contacted using the details at the end of this privacy notice.

We have a legal duty to protect any information we collect from you. We use appropriate technologies to safeguard your details and keep to strict security standards to prevent unauthorised access to it.

What information do we collect and how do we use it?

We obtain personal information from families to enable us to provide services to you or your family, until the child or young person with sight loss child reaches 25 years.

We use your information as follows:

Service Provision: We use contact information from web forms, emails, mail and telephone to send you information or materials that you have requested or to provide you a service. Your contact information is also used to contact you when necessary, for example, to fulfil a query or to provide a service. We retain your information for 5 years.

Donations: Any donations you make may require personal and financial information. On the basis of your consent, as evidenced by your filling in the necessary information to make a donation, we will collect your contact information (such as contact details), and any necessary financial information (such as account numbers).

Contact information and financial information from the donation or enquiries are used to process your donation or provide services. Financial information that is collected is held securely and deleted on completion of the relevant financial transaction (credit card details are not stored).

Applying for a Job, Board position or Volunteering Position with Angel Eyes NI: We will collect data about you, both personal data (such as your name and contact details) and also sensitive personal data (such as information about your health, disability and right to work in the UK) in order to meet our legal obligations. The personal data and sensitive personal data will be stored, processed, used and disclosed by us in the following ways:

  • To facilitate the recruitment process;

  • To enable you to submit your application form, CV, apply online for jobs or to subscribe to alerts about jobs we think may be of interest to you;

  • To answer your questions and enquiries;

  • To third parties where we need to use them to provide services that we have requested including references, qualifications and criminal reference checks and to verify details that you have provided from a third party;  

  • To monitor compliance with our equal opportunities policy. 

Applying for services: We will collect data about you, both personal data (such as your name and contact details) and sometimes, where appropriate, sensitive personal data (such as information about your child’s eye condition and health). The personal data and sensitive personal data will be stored, processed and used in the following ways:

  • Providing and administering our services; 

  • Monitoring the quality of services provided;

  • To answer your questions and enquiries;

  • To use your information on an anonymised basis to monitor compliance with our equal opportunities policy;

  • To make referrals to external organisations if you have given consent for such referrals.

The basis upon which we process data when providing services is to meet our legitimate interests as a charity working to benefit families and young people living with sight loss and in the legitimate interests of children and families in order to ensure they have every opportunity to reach their full potential in all aspects of daily living.

We have carried out an assessment to make sure that we have thought about how the legitimate interests of the charity and the families and young people we work for can be served whilst respecting the privacy and confidentiality of children and families. We consider that such use of your data goes no further than you would reasonably expect, is likely to serve you or your child’s best interests and is unlikely to be detrimental to your fundamental rights and freedoms.

Additionally, the sensitive data that we hold about children and families is processed by us for reasons of substantial public interest. We are aiming to make a difference to all young people with sight loss and their families by improving systems and pathways to enable equality of access to support for all.

This personal information is kept securely by Angel Eyes NI for a period of 7 years from last contact.

Photographs/Videos/Sound Recordings

Angel Eyes NI may, take photographs/videos/sound recordings at its events for use in printed and electronic media to capture a record our activities and/or for promotional purposes. Angel Eyes NI will always seek your consent before doing so.

What happens when you link to another site?

Our website contains links to other websites. This privacy policy applies only to our site, so you should always be aware when you are moving to another site and read the privacy statement of any site which collects personal information.

We do not pass on any personal information about you to any other site when you link to another non-Angel Eyes NI site.

We will take all steps reasonably necessary to ensure that your data is treated securely and in accordance with this privacy policy. This includes review of our systems and using expert advice and services to ensure our data security systems are up to date.

Unfortunately, the transmission of information via the internet is not completely secure. Although we will do our best to protect your personal data, we cannot guarantee the security of your data transmitted to our site; any transmission is at your own risk. Once we have received your information, we will use strict procedures and security features to try to prevent unauthorised access.

Information Security

We will not share any of the personal data of parents/carers or their children without express consent from the parent/carer. If Angel Eyes NI believes that a referral to another organisation or a project partner would be beneficial, to enable access to additional services for parents/carers or children, you will be informed of the potential benefits of such a referral. If you give express consent, then data relevant to the referral (such as your name, contact details, the nature of the child’s eye condition and the services sought) will be shared in a manner compliant with the Data Protection Laws. In the case of a child or young person’s data, where we assess that the child is not able to understand the consent process, then we will ask a parent or guardian to consent on their behalf.

Withdrawal of Consent

In relation to referrals, where we use consent to enable us to process your data, you may withdraw your consent for data collection and usage at any time by telephone, letter or e-mail using the contact details ate the end of this notice. If you withdraw your consent, we will no longer be able to provide the referral service to you/ your child.

Consent for Referrals to other organisations

You have the following rights in relation to the data we hold about you and/or your child in:

  • Erasure of personal data (the right to be “forgotten”);

  • Rectification of inaccurate personal data;

  • Restriction of the processing or personal data;

  • Data portability so that personal data can be transmitted in certain circumstances.

  • The right to object to processing;

However there may be some cases where we are unable to carry out your request. If this is the case, we will tell you why.
