"Now I understand why E struggles in unfamiliar places. Thank you for this opportunity; this has helped my understanding of my daughter’s vision impairment and how it affects her."
Family Virtual Reality sessions are led by our in-house eye clinician, supported by our Family Support Team. The sessions last one hour, they are free of charge, delivered in our Angel Eyes NI offices in Belfast and can accommodate up to 10 family members.
The sessions are carried out in three stages, beginning with our eye clinician taking the family through their child’s clinic letter, breaking down medical terms included in the clinic letter and highlighting visual functions that will be simulated in the virtual reality headset. Our eye clinician then inputs the visual functions of the individual child or young person, using their latest clinical measurements into our groundbreaking Empatheyes virtual reality software. The family members put on a virtual reality headset and experience their child’s vision simulated across settings including a class room scene, playground scene and living room scene. The final part of the session involves our family support worker offering practical strategies and resources that can be used at home to support your child.
“The VR training is the best we have received as a school staff. So engaging and informative.”
